Lush; Catastrophe Cosmetic & Mint Julips

Catastropher Cosmetic £5.75 Mint Julips £4.95

The Lush lip scrubs seem to be popping up everywhere at the moment so I thought I should see what all the hype is about. My lip care basically revolves around vaseline (cocoa flavour, mmm) however since burning in the sun on monday this really isn’t enough (I’m extremely pale and burn way too easily). So I thought I better invest, I bought a new cherry Carmex and the Mint Julips lip scrub. I have to say I’m impressed, firstly choosing a flavour was hard with a choice of bubblegum, chocolate and mint choc. I was advised the mint as you get a tingly feeling after and it isn’t too sweet. All Lush products are completely natural, the scrub is a mixture of just sugar and essential oils. The sales assistants are always lovely and after demonstrating how to use the product, started licking the sugar off her lips. I was a bit unsure about this but it really does taste yummy! I also made the boyf try it in the shop which he wasn't to impressed with but he agreed it definitely works.

I thought it would be rude not to have a proper look around while we were there (tehe) so ended up buying this face mask too, I have quite dry to combination skin so Catastrophe Cosmetic was recommended as being deep cleansing but gentle and moisturising. Again this is another product you can supposedly eat *gulp* being filled with irish moss, almonds, blueberries and calamine. I do believe natural products are better for you and your body, I guess I’m still a hippie at heart ;) and I love it when items prove me right as this did leaving my skin feeling deeply cleansed and soft.

The only time I used to go in Lush was when I was in Covent Garden, London so now there’s a local one I think I may get a little addicted *oh god* Next on my wish list is the Cupcake facemask, Buffy body butter and Soft Coeur massage bar.

The Body Shop; Almond Body Butter & Raspberry Body Scrub

* Again apologises for the iphone camera
Almond Body Butter £5 Raspberry Body Scrub £5

Recently I have neglected my skin horrendously, I leave my make up on, avoid moisturising and just generally haven’t been the kindest to my body. I have also really got into beauty blogs recently. I Covet Thee and ETC LLYMLRS are my favourites right now, they have inspired my to get my act together and finally to start a beauty category on Charlotte’s Web.

I hate buying things and I could name all the beauty products I own on one hand however I think it’s easier to start a regime like this rather than by being overwhelmed with a hundred and one items. When I was younger I used to use a lot of The Body Shop products and I don’t really know why I stopped, maybe because of the hefty price tag however now I definitely believe their products are worth the money.

My mum had a few vouchers for The Body Shop and as they were having a big spring sale we thought we would pop in. I picked up this almond body butter (I already use the hand & nail cream which my boyfriend bought me and is great!) and this raspberry body scrub (which smells amazing) for just a fiver each. Normally the tubs are around £12 so I thought this was a bargain. I normally use e45 moisturiser however I have really noticed a difference in my skin since using the butter, the thicker consitency really leaves your skin feeling softer for longer. I think using an exfoliator is really important too as it helps your moisturiser work better and gets rid of all your dead skins cells so leaves you with a brighter complexion.

Television

So please, oh please, we beg, we pray,
Go throw your TV set away,
And in its place you can install
A lovely bookshelf on the wall.
Then fill the shelves with lots of books,
Ignoring all the dirty looks,
The screams and yells, the bites and kicks,
And children hitting you with sticks -
Fear not, because we promise you
That, in about a week or two
Of having nothing else to do,
They’ll now begin to feel the need
Of having something good to read.

BFW ‘Tips For Surviving Fashion Week'

**I apologise for the camera quality already, read on for more details.

I have been to Bristol Fashion Week in the past with my mother and friends however never as an official ‘blogger’. This was also my first ever blogger type event, I finally popped the cherry! So I thought I would share some of my thoughts, do and don’ts and general disasters with you. Do keep tuned, when the official photographs have been realised I will be posting about the SS12 trends, this is my favourite season as it’s all floral, floral, floral and I’m also very excited about the twenties and fifties inspired looks with a dash of festival.

Fashion Week Dos and Don’ts

Don’t forget to dose up on Earl Grey and posh biscuits before the show, it get’s rather hot so dizzy spells are to be expected.

Dress; Market stall in Bristol Cardigan; Charity Shop Bag; Primark

Do wear whatever your comfortable in and be yourself. After looking through some of the ‘What You Wore to Fashion Week’ photographs I had a little panic that everyone was wearing high fashion or at least items from the high street BUT embrace who you are *getting a bit deep here*. I love charity shops and vintage items so I’m not going to pretend I don’t.

Don’t forget to take advantage of all the free vouchers, competitions AND cakes, we also had pink fizz.

Do get a good seat, if your interested in taking pictures the end of a row is always good and being a far forward as possible is a must. We were sat at the very end of the second row.

**Don’t forget a decent camera, borrow one if you must! This is my biggest regret from the event. I’m planning on studying photography at University, why wouldn’t I take a camera!? I need to justify myself here, I did think there would be some restrictions on taking photographs and I also usually work with analogue cameras so I’ve got out of the habit of carrying my SLR around with me. Another reason is I’ve got so used to the iphone camera being almost adequate for most things that I assumed it would be okay. This was definitely the biggest lesson learnt. So pleased that everyone else took lots of lovely pictures and the official photographs will be released soon.

Do collect your free goodie bag asap with lots of lovely freebies !

Don’t forget to wear your pass and keep a note of your favourite scenes and trends. I’m so excited about the twenties and fifties looks aswell as the festival and florals but they are both a given.

Do have a proper read of all the free magazines. I shall be doing a post on Tres Chic in due course.

Don’t miss out on other events around Bristol. I’ve already seen the Normal Parkinson ‘An Eye For Fashion' exhibition at M Shed (see here) and can’t wait to visit the RWA over easter.

Me Without You

Chloe from chloeHford recommended I watch this film after I mentioned I love the TV drama White Heat. She was right, what an amazing film. I watched it online *naughty* so I did miss a few sections as the site tended to skip ten minutes every so often however I’m definitely going to buy the dvd once I get paid. Such a great representation of girls and the difficulties they face while growing up.

BFW 'Live Blogging Event'

I’m currently sat in the Alveston House Hotel making use of the free wifi while drinking earl grey tea in a sunny conservatory, I’m now having a realisation of what it’s like to be a student. I’ve only just decided on an outfit for the fashion show later, I do always leave everything to the last minute - oh dear. The sunny weather has helped my choose a vintage spring dress, floral of course.

The past couple of days have been extremely hectic and not the most pleasant. I’m without a car which means I’m back to being a bus baby :( however at least the weather is sunny so I have been riding my bike whenever possible, it’s my stepmothers from when she was a teenage so it’s cute, a city bike with a basket and high handle bars. I also think I may have a slight internet addiction, our wifi is broken which is absolutely killing me! (Not just at one house but at both my mothers and my fathers, which makes it a lot more traumatic). This is causing a few problems as of course it the Blogging Event for Bristol Fashion Week today.

The special bloggers show starts tonight followed by the opportunity to have a wander through the pampering section at the mall and collect our BFW goodie bags, I keep seeing mother and daughters wandering around with theirs which is getting me all excited! I’m meeting up with friends before the show, why not take a look at their blogs; Annie by Amy and Ship Shape & Bristol Fashion

You can keep also keep updated throughout the show via the Live Blogging on the Mall’s website here or keep up to date via twitter by following @ourcharr @mallcribbs or hash tag #BFW

My final decided outfit for the Blogging event tonight, I’m not a major high fashion person so I stopped worrying about fitting in and stuck to what I like best, second hand granny. This dress was from a market in Bristol while the woollen cardigan is from a charity shop in Thornbury. I do think it may be a little warm for wool after going for a cycle and promptly having to strip off.

Brighton Rock

This is one of my favourite films, it’s so good and makes me want to move to Brighton for University even more. In the end I really want to believe Pinky is good however I just can’t decide, poor Rose.
You can watch it on BBC iplayer here, definitely recommend it!

White Heat, BBC2

I discovered this series this morning after a friend recommended it, it’s definitely a new favourite. No one can resist a sixties drama. Programmes like this always get me thinking.

All love shifts and changes. I don't know if you can be wholeheartedly in love all the time. Julie Andrews

Dress and  Cardigan; H&M, Earrings; Oasis

Lucian Freud, National Portrait Gallery

This was another exhibition I visited while in LDN. Although I’m not directly interested in painting I always think it’s worthwhile and gives a different type of inspiration to see any artists work. My mum also loved it even if it was incredibly packed. My favourite were the nudes, see if you can notice the rat.

Zarina Bhimji, Whitechapel Gallery

I had an interview at London Met university a couple of weeks ago now ( they gave me an unconditional offer:):) ) and while we were in town thought we better partake in some cultural shenanigans. The Whitechapel gallery was just one of the places we visited and while it had a few exhibitions at the time Zarina Bhimji’s work really stood out to me.

Evident Noise Photography Review

“ Charlotte King is a Fine Art Photographer, with an abstract approach to everyday life.

Charlotte King, a 19-year-old, who has completed GCSE's and A-level's, is currently studying at Bristol School of Art on an Art and Design Foundation. Charlotte is applying for university at the moment, and as many of you can agree, it's a very tough decision. Charlotte has been lucky enough to be brought up in a buzzing and creative city, wherever she decides to go they have a lot to live up to!

As good as the internet and social networks are they cannot fill every hole, as Charlotte states “…I would say books, magazines and exhibitions are a little more worthwhile”. It's tricky now-a-days, with people getting into 'arty' subjects at a younger age, because of all the blogs and Flickr etc, they forget that there is a lot to go and see. Of course there can be a money issue but theres always something going on near you, it's worth going to look. But it is great to hear that Charlotte is going to the effort to look at a lot of magazines, books and regularly visit exhibitions.

Charlotte's work is currently more in the Fine Art Photography category, with some beautiful abstract photos shown below. “I'm currently working predominately in film, experimenting with whimsical compositions. I love documenting the world around me, everyday occurrences which are usually taken for granted” With Charlotte's abstract approach to everyday life, it's really interesting to see what can be created, and it leaves to viewer trying to work out if they know where it is, or even what it is. Charlotte is not expecting to make a lot of money out of her career, and it's simply coincidental if others enjoy her work, she's just exciting about spending her life doing something she enjoys! (Which is something we all have in common).
With 7 cameras in her collection, and an iPhone always in hand, Charlotte has managed to build up quite a collection. I'm sure a lot of people can agree that you go through stages with cameras, and Charlotte is amongst us, but at the moment she has been using her Canon Sure Shot Zoom XL and Diana Mini a fair amount. She also has a good method while on a shoot, to stay as open minded as possible, “I'm still at the stage where I just want to experiment and play around so every shoot is completely different and new.” This is a very good method to stay in to be honest, as much as every person has an individual style, you don't want your work to be repetitive, it just gets samey and boring.

Charlotte is also on the guest list for Bristol Fashion Week (21/03/12-25/03/12) and is going to be a volunteer at Bristol's Festival of Photography (03/05/12-31/05/12).
